Recently I took a little weekend trip to the city of Hamburg. The city is absolutely beautiful with all the water surrounding it, the old city centre, the harbour, the beautiful old buildings and the unique fishermen’s bars and sea spirit to it. I also got a chance to visit the World Press Photo Exhibition 2013, which was both stunning and free! It was raining almost the entire time I was in Hamburg, but that kind of added to the overall rough sea city charme. Absolutely worth a visit! – Julia

For the Easter weekend I took a trip to the Black Forest in southern Germany to see to see my sister in Freiburg. It is such a cute little city, surrounded by beautiful nature and filled with gorgeous old houses and churches and tiny, specialty shops. My favourite one was one that sells old wood and iron detail ware like street signs, house number signs, metal balls, hooks, keys, buttons, and letters made out of paper board. – Julia

This week Lizzie’s parents came to Berlin! It was so so so lovely to meet them and we had a lot of fun simply walking around the city (even though it was freezing cold!). We went from district to district, since they are all so different from one another, and stopped at some of my favourite sights – above all the Berlin TV tower! We also went to see the East Side Gallery which is a 1.3 km piece of the wall which was painted by over a hundred of different international artists, turning it into a very colourful and powerful memorial. There was also a lot of grafitti sightseeing and lunch at a highly recommendable Austrian place called Jolesch. It was so neat spending time with Lizzie’s parents – I just love the Kirill family! – Julia
There is nothing that I love more than having brunch with girlfriends on the weekend. Especially when it comes to trying a new place in the neighborhood. Mangia is a cute little restaurant that specializes in European-Asian fusion cuisine. I love how the space is small but cozy and homey, with quirky little decor. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes! – sally
Well, my week here at John C. Campbell Folk School has been quite a great adventure! The days were filled with lots of learning, calligraphy, new friends, beautiful views and lots and lots of food. For those who haven’t heard of John C. Campbell, it’s located in the N.C. Appalachian mountains, and they teach traditional crafts, music and dance. But what they don’t tell you is that they also spoil you with the most fabulous homemade bread. I’m talking about bread that melts in your mouth. Seriously, sometimes I would skip dessert and just have a second helping of bread. It’s that good. So this week, my Friday’s Lil’ Indulgences are the gorgeous views here at John C. Campbell and the absolutely wonderful bread! Oh, and be sure to check back for all the calligraphy work I made while I was up here! – Lizzie Britton
